In Sabina
Stay in a Farmhouse is a family-run gem centred around the world of truffles, located in the heart of Sabina (Lazio region), a stunning region steeped in ancient history.
What was once overgrown woodland has been transformed by Claudio Marcello, a young truffle hunter, and his partner Marta, who lovingly restored the ruins using local stone, and enhanced the original structure with iron and glass elements.
The result is a beautifully integrated retreat, blending meticulous attention to detail with natural, rustic charm.
At the Farm, English Cocker Spaniels are bred, and guests can enjoy immersive truffle hunting experiences, followed by cooking and savouring an exquisite meal together.
Accommodation options include a cosy, self-contained apartment equipped with all amenities, including a jacuzzi.
For nature lovers and those visiting in warmer months, an agricamping area is set up, featuring unique tree-suspended tents for a one-of-a-kind outdoor stay.
In front of the farmhouse, you’ll find a synergistic garden inspired by the golden spiral, a symbol of nature and life.
The grounds also offer hidden nooks – perfect for reading, meditating, or simply connecting with nature- scattered across the garden and at the entrance to the surrounding woodland.
Activities included in Package:
Truffle Hunt with Cocker Dogs – Sioux, Trifola and Undi, the delightful truffle-seeking cockers of the agriturismo where you will be staying. Led by them you will hunt your white or black (depending on the season/month) treasure and savour it later during a delicious homemade meal.
Visit a Buffalo Farm in Montefiascone – Meet Luisa, a young entrepreneur who took over the family dairy farm. She will explain the principles of sustainable farming where the well-being of animals is just as important as the mouth-watering buffalo mozzarella DOC.
Yoga Class – Feel blissful and serene with our Yoga class, reconnect with nature and rediscover your energy.
Honey tasting in Sabina – visit to a local bee-keeper for a honey tasting session.
Itinerary
Day 1- Welcome to Bolsena, one of Europe’s most beautiful cities
We start in Bolsena, a town with a medieval heart and an enchanting lakeside promenade.
You’ll stay in an old lava stone farmhouse on an organic farm. Surrounded by lush nature and just a few steps from the lake, your family will enjoy wide open spaces and a beautiful swimming pool.
Don’t miss the delightful Bolsena aquarium located in the unique location of the Rocca Monaldeschi or a boat trip to discover the enchanting Isola Bisentina.
Day 2 – Montefiascone: sustainable farms and enchanting architecture.
Located just a few km from Bolsena, lies a small and fascinating medieval village, known not only for its walls and Cathedral but for being home to some of the best delicacies of the area: the buffalo mozzarella.
Meet Luisa, a young entrepreneur who took over the family dairy farm.
She will explain the principles of sustainable farming where the well-being of animals is just as important as the mouth-watering buffalo mozzarella DOC!
Before/after the visit and lunch make sure you allow enough time to visit the city, don’t forget to take your camera with you, from the Belvedere you’ll enjoy the most beautiful view over the lake and surrounding valley.
Day 3 – Tuscia: the “Dying city” of Civita di Bagnoregio
If it’s your first time in Tuscia, there’s a magical place you should see: the “Dying City” (La città che muore) of Civita di Bagnoregio.
The city is only accessible by a pedestrian bridge. As the name suggests the city is built over a “crumbling” cliff.
We suggest you avoid peak season/hours as the area is often overcrowded or arrange a different type of visit, like trekking of the so-called Calanchi valley below.
If you are looking for a most “exclusive” place don’t miss the fairytale atmosphere of the Bosco Monumentale del Sasseto and the Torre Alfina Castle in Acquapendente.
Day 4 – “Discover Inner Serenity in Tuscia’s Tranquil Countryside
Feel blissful and serene with our Yoga class, reconnect with nature and rediscover your energy.
The day continues in Orvieto, a marvellous city rich in history and arts.
Get ready to be amazed by the frescoes of San Brizio Chapel inside Orvieto’s duomo or descend the 63 meters of San Patrick’s Well.
Did you know that its name is linked to the legend of San Patrick’s Cave in Ireland?
The depth of the Orvieto well reminds in fact a mysterious cave linking the world of the living to that of Eternity where the Irish saint was believed to retreat in prayer
DAY 5 – Free day
Day 6 – Goodbye Tuscia, Welcome Sabina!
On your way down to Sabina, we suggest a stop in Vitorchiano, a beautiful village with the only MOAI statue outside Easter Island and/or the Sacro Bosco di Bomarzo, the oldest park of (monstrous) sculptures in the modern world.
To welcome you in Sabina, Sioux, Trifola and Undi, the delightful truffle-seeking cockers of the agriturismo where you will be staying.
On the estate you will experience an adventure: you will stay in tents suspended in the trees, surrounded by nature alone.
Day 7 – Searching for Sabina’s precious gold: the truffle.
The Sabina area has in fact nothing to envy to Tuscany or Piedmont when it comes to truffles.
Led by cuddly cocker dogs you will hunt your white or black (depending on the season/month) treasure and savour it later during a delicious homemade meal.
Free afternoon and dinner.
Day 8 – Meeting with a Local Bee-keeper and Honey Tasting
Don’t miss a walk to the ancient Borgo di Farfa with its Abbey and characteristics “botteghe”, some date back to early ‘900 and you might find the perfect souvenir for your loved ones.
On the way back to your agriturismo we planned a visit to a local bee-keeper for a honey tasting session.
A last stop for an aperitif with a view in Casperia village is also recommended.
Day 9 – Goodbye Lazio
Goodbye from Lazio.
